VIDEO DESIGN SOFTWARE TO UNVEIL LIBERTY v8.3 AT NAB 2003
Enhanced Edition of Industry-Leading Paint & Animation Product Offers
Direct File and Database Support for Pinnacle Thunder and Lightning
MELVILLE, NY, April 7, 2003-Video Design Software has announced that it will unveil Liberty v8.3, the next generation of its industry-leading paint & animation product line for broadcast and film applications. The new release, available on VDS' turnkey systems or for Windows NT/2000/XP or IRIX platforms, offers a number of long-awaited features including direct file and database support for Pinnacle Thunder & Lightning in the Windows version. VDS will officially unveil Liberty 8.3 at NAB 2003 in the Pinnacle Systems booth, #SU5003.
"The new features in Liberty 8.3 illustrate VDS' commitment to providing an efficient, user-friendly experience," says D.R. Worthington, director of Marketing and Product Development at VDS. "Liberty's direct file and database management interface maximizes the user's creativity by placing any still, layer or clip file from most industry display systems right at their fingertips. In addition, it has been a tremendously positive experience working with the Pinnacle team. And, with the newly integrated Pinnacle file support, Liberty now serves well as a seamless paint and animation package for Thunder & Lightning users. "
All versions of Liberty 8.3 offer effective management of stills and video clips directly to most industry standard 2D/3D graphics systems, NLE's, Character Generators, Still-Stores and Video Clip Servers, making it easy to locate, edit and save any file. The program automatically generates thumbnails for browsing and can display and update database information for each still and video clip on the system, minimizing search time and maximizing productivity. Liberty operators can recall any still directly from the browser, as well as save stills with optional database info and key channel. Video clips are also listed on the server with database info. Video clips can be loaded up with complete transport control functions, including play, stop, cue, jog, shuttle and get current timecode. Video clips can be accessed frame by frame or imported from the server as various clip file formats onto the local hard drive, and clip files created on the local hard drive can be exported to a clip on the server with optional update of database info.
One of the most significant features introduced in the Windows version of Liberty 8.3 is direct file support for both Pinnacle Thunder and Lightning via Network Neighborhood. Embedded within Liberty's UI, this feature allows users to grab and send stills in the Pinnacle G format to and from Liberty's canvas, as well as import and export video clips to and from Liberty's animation or rotoscoping environments. This functionality, inspired by feedback from existing Liberty and Pinnacle clients, allows Pinnacle users to create graphics and animations in Liberty and transfer them directly to the Thunder clip server/still-store and Lightning still-store. Liberty uses a windows COM interface to communicate with Pinnacle, based on a proprietary DLL installed on the client system. This allows users to transfer or browse files using the Windows Network Neighborhood of the host system.
"VDS is clearly furthering the state of the art in graphics production," comments Steve Kang, Product Manager, Live To Air Storage, Pinnacle Systems Inc. "By tightly integrating with Thunder and Lightning, Liberty 8.3 expands the capabilities of our award-winning clip and still servers. Liberty smoothes the graphics workflow and lets the user focus on creation. It's exciting to see what the excellent VDS team has done."
